Rangeview Counseling Center is a unique place to receive care, and the same applies to being an intern or practicum student. I began my practicum in the fall of 2017 and am currently working on a year long internship. One of the reasons I was attracted to working at the site was the passion my supervisors have for working with clients to learn and employ meaningful change in their lives.
As for supervision, it appears the same goals apply. My supervisor has told me the vision she and the site director had when they took over the center was for it to be a learning and teaching site for practicums, interns, and others working towards licensure, with the ultimate goal being to create meaningful work and change for everyone involved. Another attractive quality is the freedom practicums, interns, and other counselors have to create new programs for clients. For example, one of our interns who specializes in art therapy has started a very popular art therapy workshop for clients. Additionally, two interns will be starting new therapy options in January, one in yoga therapy and another in mindfulness therapy. Although these give practicums, interns, and other counselors the ability to hone their skills in order to be better counselors after graduating, ultimately it is the clients who benefit from these programs, and the positive effect ripples out into the greater community.
These opportunities to receive care in and to work in a friendly space are valuable, especially during a time of year when it can be tempting to hole up at home and not interact with others. As social beings, our well being depends on being attuned with others. Rangeview offers us a place to be seen and heard, which is a necessary component to attunement. Not only are there multiple varieties of therapy available, the pups who spend time at Rangeview also help us regulate.
Whether you are someone interested in receiving services at Rangeview or looking for a place to complete your practicum or internship, you are always encouraged to stop by, have hot coffee or tea, pet an adorable dog, and be welcomed into the community.
