Margot Iseman

Margo Iseman, MA, LPC, CAC III
Mental Health and Addictions Counselor, Adjunct Professor

Margot has always had two enduring passions. One is to understand the nature of what it is to be human and the other is a love of dance and the intelligence of the body. She earned her BA in English Literature at SUNY Buffalo in 1971, a pursuit that allowed her to study the history, philosophy and psychology of people over the centuries. But after graduating Magna Cum Laude, she found her love of dance to be too strong not to pursue and began intensive training, which culminated in performance and teaching. At the same time, however, she was drawn into contemplative practice and study, following her passion to understand the nature of being human.

These two passions finally were united when she entered the Masters Program in Dance Movement Therapy at The Naropa University. Simultaneously, during the summers, she studied and received a certificate in Body-Mind Centering, a program of study that explores the intelligence of the body-mind. Having chosen to do her internship in the addictions field, she began working in the field in 1989 after completing her MA, eventually becoming director of the Intensive Outpatient Program for addictions recovery at Centennial Peaks Hospital. At the same time, she began teaching in both undergraduate and graduate programs at The Naropa University, including classes in Body Mind Centering, Contemplative Psychology and meditation, where she is now an Adjunct Professor. She has continued to teach, has had a private practice in body-centered psychotherapy and enjoys working in the addictions field, ever interested in helping people to integrate and heal their body-mind.
